Watch Now

Anthony has 80 years of age, miserable and disagreeable, and reject the carers his daughter, Anne, introduces encouragingly.

However, help becomes necessary for Anne, and Anthony’s grip upon reality is unwavering.

Anne can’t make more daily visits. How much of his personality and his history will Anthony cling to while we witness the ebb and flow of his memory?

While Anne still lives and breaths before her, how does Anne handle the loss of her father?

Through a loving reflection upon the vital human condition, THE FATHER embraces real lives warmly; heartbreaking and incessantly conquering – a film which embraces the reality of our own existence.

The Father 2021 DVD Cover – Analysis

The Father 2021 DVD Cover is told mainly from the viewpoint of the disoriented, angry and disappointed Anthony (Hopkins) as he remembers those memories which seem to be not consistent with what he’s told.

The public sees his relationships with many people – his daughter, Anne (Olivia Colmán) and his caretaker Laura (Imogen Poots), a mysterious man whom it is not able to recognize first (Rufus Sewell).

This makes it difficult to trace what is really, what is present and who talks to Anthony who, though portrayed in these scenes by various actors, he assumes is Anne and her husband.

The details of Anthony’s life and that of his daughter blur and he’s not sure Anne’s divorced, married, moved to Paris for somebody or what they have for dinner! In the midst of his increasing confusion are moments of insight, teinted with feelings of extreme sadness and a possessivity which emphasizes a failure to control the mind of Anthony.
